Classes and Workshops
Make Kate’s Open Quilt Studio your new quilting, sewing and embroidery home to learn new techniques, to push past the traditional to try new things that increase your skills. Whether you’re working on your first pieced quilt top, pillowcase, or a challenging piece of textile art to hang on your wall, we are happy to help. Every student and every project is important to us. We offer dynamic bilingual classes for beginners and advanced quilters alike. We can’t wait to share our passion with you!What you need to bring for Nearly Every Class
Your sewing machine in good working order with the instruction manual and a sewing kit. Sewing kits consist of the following items - needles, thread, seam ripper, scissors, straight pins, pencil/pen and paper (or notebook), quilting ruler, rotary cutter and cutting mat and an extra bobbin. You are welcome to borrow a Bernina or Baby Lock for the day. Just call ahead to verify which machines are available.Please arrive between 10 - 15 minutes before class so we may begin on time

Payment must be made to guarantee your space in class

Class registration fees are non-refundable, unless we have an insufficient number of people to fill the class or if there is someone else to fill your spot.

Books or patterns bought for class are non-refundable and non-returnable regardless of class cancellations.

You are responsible to ensure that you get a supply list at least one week prior to class.

Please respect those with allergies and refrain from wearing perfumes, scented lotions and hair sprays.

Be aware that some classes require pre-class preparations and homework.

Basic supplies will not be provided if you forget to bring your own to class. Kate’s Open Quilt Studio requires that you bring your own sewing supplies, rotary cutter, rulers and cutting mats.

You are required to bring your own sewing machine, and your machine must be in good working order before classes start.

This 10 week course will challenge you to look at patterns that demand various rulers and learn to pick which rulers you actually need for a project and how to use your basic rulers to complete it. Technique Sampler will also challenge you to develop your quilting and piercing skills while giving you the techniques to master complex and challenging quilts. This class is an intermediate level class. You must have experience in machine piecing, and you must have more than one quilt under your belt. We will be exploring different construction methods and techniques to create a sampler quilt that helps you build your toolkit of skills. We will be covering the entire quilt over 10 weeks. Make an embroidered Tote in one of 3 different sizes. All the exterior pieces are done on the embroidery machine and then the bag is assembled on your sewing machine. Lined and with a zipper closure, we will be adding a bonus section on how to create interior pockets. If made in the largest 6 by 10 hoop size, this bag is a very generous 24" x 12" x 4" but even in the smallest hoop size it is a roomy 16" x 8" x 4" hold all. Solid fabrics and colorful thread choices will allow the graceful and artistic embroidery designs to shine and give you a unique bag that will be noticed and admired.
