Quilting with a Walking Foot or Duel Feed - Online or In Person

Free motion not for you? Let Kate’s Open Quilt Studio and Ann Mitton be your guide as you work
your way from walking foot basics to intricate marked designs as you master machine quilting with
your walking foot.
Using WALK as a guide, we will explore a set of walking foot quilting basics that provides a solid
foundation for quilting with ease, quality, and creativity.
You will be guided through a series of test drives with your walking foot, allowing you to get
acquainted with its features and set yourself up for success with your foot and your machine.
Then we will learn how to prepare and mark the quilt, prevent puckers while quilting, and manage
large projects. We will look at walking foot friendly designs including channel quilting, matchstick
quilting and quilting with decorative stitches. Learn to spiral and quilt concentric designs or use
your newly developed skills to quilt unique designs with reserve.
You can achieve textures with a toolbox of simple to complex designs and you'll have the options
you need to quilt on your home machine. You will use designs that will support your piecing and
create a harmonious marriage of piecing and quilting.
With a walking foot, you'll find a level of control and success you never thought possible, and you'll
become as excited about the quilting as you are about your piecing.

Instructor Bio: | I have lived all my life in this part of New Brunswick, growing up in Dorchester and then moving to Sackville and raising my family here. I come from a long line of makers and learned to sew, knit and crochet from my maternal grandmother by the time I was 5 years old. I am mostly a self taught quilter and machine embroiderer. My mother and grandmother both hand quilted with a ladies church group in Dorchester and I remember those lovely traditional quilts with great fondness. I have been married for over 50 years and have 2 married sons and 2 grandchildren. When I retired, I rewarded myself with an embroidery/sewing machine. Unfortunately there were no classes available in the area at the time and so I had to learn from my sewing machine manual and the internet. Because of that, I feel it is important to share what I know about quilting and embroidery with others so they don't feel like they are going it alone. Getting up in front of people was so far outside my comfort zone but now I love it because I am talking to like minded friends who are as eager to learn as I am to share. I try to make my classes fun and I try to help people relax and become proficient with their machines and quilting tools. There is much laughter and sharing and caring during my classes. Every time Kate and Marilyn and I look at a new teaching season and new classes, I get excited about quilting all over again. I love looking for new things to share, new twists on old ideas and figuring out how to present them to our students. |
